Research

I am working on a process-oriented understanding of the interrelationships between coastal morphological processes and the changes in human habitats in the north German coastal region during the Holocene.

Since February 2016, I have been leading the Coastal and Quaternary Geology department at the NIhK together with Friederike Bungenstock. In our team, we work on projects on various interdisciplinary issues on the coast. Areas of investigation include estuaries, mudflats, islands, marshes and other coastal zones on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The research focuses on the relationship between natural landscape dynamics and human adaptation strategies.
