About us

The Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research (NIhK) studies the development of settlements, landscapes, and vegetation of the German coastline and its surroundings starting in the last ice age and reaching into the present day. Our institute employs a wide range of methods, combining and continuously developing various techniques from microscopic environmental research to the study of whole landscapes and settlements.
