Research
My research focuses on sea level changes since the last ice age and their impact on coastal landscape development. I am particularly interested in the interplay between subsurface geological pre-conditions, regional and local sediment supply, and the influence of long-term sea-level rise as opposed to storms as single events. Especially during the last two millenia, the influence of human land use and coastal protection has been added. The question arises how much and what we can see in the sedimentary record and what we can infer from our knowledge of post-glacial landscape evolution for future coastal development.
