Tracking Finds of the Funnel Beaker Culture– Museum Visit in Stade

Within the framework of the project "Between the rivers and against the tide," finds from megalithic tombs in the Elbe-Weser Triangle have been documented since the past year. To date, objects from the districts of Cuxhaven, Stade, and Harburg have been scientifically recorded and documented. This process involves visits to various museums in the region, with a trip to Stade taking place in February. Both in the museum archive of the Stade Museum in Ottenbeck and in the permanent exhibition of the Schwedenspeicher, finds were made accessible by curator Lea Steinkampf. On-site, the finds were described, measured, photographed, and drawn.

The comprehensive documentation of the finds serves to collect and present the material heritage of the Funnel Beaker Culture—the first farmers in Northern Germany—for the region of the Elbe-Weser Triangle. Secondly, a comparison of pottery based on their diverse forms, decorations, and decoration techniques aims to reveal communal spaces, thereby facilitating a better understanding of the structures of the societies. Finally, it is intended to contextualize the material within a supra-regional framework to comprehend the role of the Funnel Beaker Culture that once inhabited the Elbe-Weser Triangle.
