The objectives and methods of the NIhK – presented in an image film

Informing the public about its research is an important concern for the NIhK. When the MWK 2024 offered cultural and scientific institutions based in Lower Saxony the opportunity to apply for special funds to improve their public image, the NIhK seized this chance. Thanks to the funding granted, it was possible, in cooperation with Jade University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven, to set up the NIhK's own social media channels and to commission the production of an image film. The aim of the film is to provide concise information about the research questions the NIhK focuses on and to present the methods used in this research. Filmmaker Bettina Wobst and cameraman Thomas Beckmann were recruited for this task. Over the past few days, they have accompanied the NIhK teams with their cameras during their excavations, geophysical measurements, drilling prospecting and restoration work, as well as various documentation actions and laboratory analyses. Filming took place at the Borgsumburg site on the island of Föhr and at the excavations of a megalithic tomb in the Ahlen-Falkenberger Moor, district of Cuxhaven. Other filming locations included the Museum Burg Bederkesa, the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and the institute itself. The extensive material is now being reviewed and prepared for editing. The film is expected to be available to view on the NIhK website in October.
