New book published: Heligoland Flint in Prehistoric Europe

An exciting field of research is the use of raw materials in the Stone and Bronze Ages. Heligoland has special red and gray flint stones available that were suitable for making stone tools. In the Stone and Bronze Ages, they were transported by ship from the island to the mainland, where they were further processed. The use of this special flint began around 11,000 years ago and ended around 3,000 years ago.
The new book in English, published by Sidestone Press, is a joint project by five authors, including Martin Segschneider and Moritz Mennenga from NIhK Wilhelmshaven. It offers an up-to-date, richly illustrated overview of all known to date finds and sites. These extend along the southern and eastern North Sea coast from the Netherlands to Denmark and south to the Rhineland. The book is aimed at anyone interested in the history of this fascinating raw material and its prehistoric use!
