The first volume of the catalogue of the Dunum burial ground has been published!
The early medieval burial ground of Dunum, district of Wittmund, has been the subject of archaeological research since the 1960s. In recent years, the well over 700 cremation and inhumation graves from the 7th to 10th century have been the focus within a research project, funded by the German Research Fundation. The results of extensive and detailed investigations carried out by Christina Peek between 2014 and 2020 on the findings and artefacts from Dunum have now been published as volume 14 of the NIhK publication series SLSN by Marie Leidorf Verlag. The scope of the resulting documentation makes it necessary to publish the Dunum graves in three sub-volumes. This first volume comprises graves 0 to 350 as well as an evaluation of the results of the anthropological investigations of all the inhumations and cremations presented by Dr Silke Grefen-Peters. Volumes 2 and 3 are in preparation and will be published soon.
