Habilitation of Melanie Augstein successfully completed

On 13 October, Dr Melanie Augstein successfully completed her habilitation at Leipzig University with a public inaugural lecture. This followed the submission of her habilitation thesis, entitled »Sichtbare Spuren – verborgene Motive. Manipulationen von Objekten in Gräbern als Mittel ritueller und symbolischer Kommunikation«, and an academic colloquium followed by a discussion. Speaking to a full audience in the lecture room of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of History, Arts and Area Studies, Melanie Augstein delivered a lecture entitled »Geteilte Welten – Prähistorische Tierbestattungen als Ausdruck komplexer Mensch-Tier-Beziehungen«. Following the lecture, Professor Markus A. Denzel, chair of the habilitation committee, presented her with the habilitation certificate, formally awarding her the academic degree of doctor philosophiae habilitatus (Dr. phil. habil.) and granting her the venia legendi (teaching qualification) in Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology. The special occasion was subsequently celebrated in the company of friends, long-standing companions, and former and current colleagues.
