The work of the NIhK – portrayed on film by Bettina Wobst

As part of an initiative by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony to improve the press and public relations work of regional research institutions, film recordings were made in August 2025 on behalf of the NIhK, both at the institute itself and at several excavation sites, providing an insight into the practical work of the NIhK. The film was based on a script developed by filmmaker Bettina Wobst in collaboration with the NIhK. For a week, Bettina Wobst and her camera operator Thomas Beckmann accompanied the research currently being carried out at the NIhK and portrayed the teams working on excavations, drilling campaigns and in the laboratories and workshops. In autumn 2025, the footage was edited and set to music, so that the first version of the film, entitled ‘Die Arbeit des Niedersächsischen Instituts für historische Küstenforschung’, celebrated its premiere at the NIhK's Christmas party. The film has now been published on the internet (YouTube) in a short version (4:45 minutes) and a long version (36:48 minutes), making it available to the public.
