How do archaeologists actually work and how do they know where they should excavate to find archaeological objects? How do they know how old the objects are? These are the questions asked by the pupils of the Neues Gymnasium to Dr. Moritz Mennenga. In a double lesson for a fifth-grade class, taught by Dr. Wiebke Endres, the pupils were informed about everyday life work on excavations but also about the scientific evaluation of the results. In addition, they got the opportunity to gain their own first experiences with the typological age determination. Using Stone Age artefacts such as axes, sickles, daggers and arrowheads, they determined the objects and placed them in chronological order, just like archaeologists do.
